LIGHT AND SHADOW

Dunbar, East Lothian

This refurbishment of an ensuite bathroom centred around the need to create a larger walk-in shower area, and to make the space low-maintenance. All plumbing was altered, and we lowered the drainage so that a wet floor could be installed. The bulkheads were also reconfigured to form an extended showering zone and conceal plumbing for a neater finish.

We turned to the tile specialists at Ca’ Pietra for a seriously eye-catching dark feature wall. Their Chemistry range in verdigris epitomises the desired urban chic look, as well as adding a welcomed depth to the compact room. Creating this contrast makes the space seem brighter, with the darkness having the effect of seemingly receding from view to create the depth and a sense of more space. Further easy-cleaning tiling was fitted to the floor and remaining walls courtesy of VitrA’s marble-textured Marmori range.

A recessed LED light in the shower was brought in to soften the contrast and provide a useful night light. We turned to Laufen for a large washbasin from their Val collection, complete with two handy storage drawers. And last but not least, a digital shower was installed with an additional wireless remote for a satisfying convenience.
